Interview with The Designer: Bed 03

In our latest designer interview, we go behind the scenes of Bed 03, exploring how form meets function in a piece that’s as practical as it is beautiful. We sat down with the designer, Beck, to talk us through the clever design choices, the challenges overcome, and the subtle details that make this bed a standout in any home.

Can you talk us through the design of the lift mechanism? What makes it user-friendly?

Beck: "Each bed is fitted with a matching fabric handle that loops neatly through the slats, allowing you to lift the mechanism with minimal effort. It’s designed to feel intuitive, smooth, and easy to operate, making accessing the storage underneath as simple as possible."

Upholstery adds softness and texture to a bedroom. How did you choose the fabric and colour options?

Beck: "A bedroom is such a personal space, they’re just for you and can be anything you want it to be. We chose loud coloured velvets for those wanting something bold and exciting, neutrals including our ever popular Linen Pumice, for those who want a calming space, and Velvet Vine for the plant lovers dreaming of bringing more green into their homes."

Storage beds can sometimes feel bulky, how did you keep Bed 03 feeling light and modern?

Beck: "We’ve cleverly avoided a bulky suspension frame for the storage area, meaning the internal storage area starts quite low to the ground rather than eating up valuable space. This means while we’ve still allowed plenty of space for storage, we were able keep the bed base from sitting too tall. Customers' mattresses will also slightly inset into the base. Overall keeping the whole aesthetic much less bulky."

Were there any challenges in designing something that feels luxurious but is also highly practical?

Beck: "With Bed 03, we gave ourselves the rule that this product should be tool-free, with fast and easy assembly methods. Creating a storage bed without tools which is safe and sturdy was a big challenge, one I wasn’t sure we could pull off. The end result is genius. This storage bed stands-alone in the market—we know of no beds that assemble like our bed, or assemble in a matter of minutes like ours, either."

How do you see Bed 03 working in both minimalist and more layered interiors?

Beck: "Bed 03 has a carefully considered look—it’s simple and it’s beautiful. The collection of fabrics all lend themselves well to the design, and the design will sit in any style of interior. Customers can find swatches on our website to test the look and feel in their bedroom. I have no doubt they’ll find the perfect option for their space."

Do you have a favourite detail in the design that people might not notice right away?

Beck: "There's a piping detail which runs along the edge of the headboard. It adds a premium feel and accentuates the curves and it's a detail I'm very glad that we added."
